Course Description
The rationale of the programme is to provide a career path for learners who wish to develop their management and care capabilities within the health and social care sector.
Learners studying this Diploma will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study:
- Analysing, synthesising and summarising information critically
- The ability to read and use appropriate literature with a full and critical understanding the ability to think independently and solve problems
- Apply subject knowledge and understanding to address familiar and unfamiliar problems
- Recognise the moral and ethical issues of health and social care practice and research; appreciating the need for ethical standards and professional codes of conduct
- An appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of health and social care service provision
- Capacity to give a clear and accurate account of a subject, assemble arguments in a mature way and engage in debate and dialogue both with specialists and non-specialists
- Transferable skills and knowledge which will enable individuals to meet changing needs
- Circumstances, whether within their own area of employment, or through promotion to a supervisory or management position, or to adapt to changes in the health/social care environment
- To motivate individuals to progress to further professional development through future study or as part of their chosen career.

How will you learn
This diploma is delivered with a flexible classroom-based method, through a variety of course materials, case studies, discussions, presentations, enquiry-based learning and problem-solving activities. We provide you with key reading and research activities, and you will make the most of our own teaching portal.
Where you will learn:
This course is delivered fully online during which you can study at any time, from anywhere and at your own pace. All you need is a computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet device connected to internet.
Assessment
Assessments will be designed according to the guidelines of each module specification. In general, the assessments will enable learners to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes across the individual elements of the programme. The range of assessments utilised will normally include: essays, reports, presentations and other structured assignments and examinations.
Assessments are drafted in conjunction with the curriculum development department and tutor concerned. Final version is confirmed by the curriculum development department.
Assessments are moderated by tutor concerned, then also verified by the Internal Verifier.
Entry Requirement
The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression. Learners will be expected to hold the following:
- some ability and possess qualifications at Level 3, for example ‘A’ Levels or vocational awards;
- some time in an organisational role and shown they have capability and drive to develop;
- learners seeking further professional development and gain work-related skills and know how.
In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, then IELTS 6 (or equivalent) is required.
